Black Women Birthing Justice

BWBJ is a grass-roots collective out of Oakland, CA. We identify as Black women and individuals across the African Diaspora and are committed to transforming birthing experiences for Black women and birthing people.

Starting Fall 2022, BWBJ will train and coordinate community doulas to support the Black families of the BElovedBIRTH Black Centering program, in collaboration with the midwives at Highland Hospital, Alameda Health System, in Oakland California. Find out more at: www.blackwomenbirthingjustice.com

Chichihualtia Perinatal & Family Wellness 

Founded in 2020, Chichihualtia Perinatal & Family Wellness is a Lineage-Health Initiative and nonprofit community health organization committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Indigenous women, mothers and young families through providing access to culturally centered traditional and evidence-based birth, and perinatal health services, and conducting outreach, education and advocacy to promote and support human lactation, perinatal mental health, full spectrum doula care, homebirth, and midwifery-led models of care. 

Chichihualtia is focused on cultivating values of self-determination and ushering the restoration of cultural legacies that support and sustain ancestral birth, lactation and family wellness practices to improve generational health outcomes.  Find out more at: www.chichihualtia.org

Roots of Labor Birth Collective

Roots of Labor Birth Collective (RLBC) is committed to reproductive justice, and believes that everyone deserves a doula, regardless of one’s ability to pay.

RLBC dedicates a group of community doulas to engage with Santa Rita Jail (SRJ) in support our community's most vulnerable population– those who are currently incarcerated. Sankofa Birthworkers Collective is a collective of Black birthworkers--doulas, midwives, physical therapists, mental health professionals, social workers, physicians, and nurses -- reclaiming their rights to birth through connection, cause, and community in the Inland Empire. The Well-Being Alliance

The Well-Being Alliance stands firm in the belief that reproductive justice transcends mere access to reproductive healthcare. Their mission encompasses a more expansive vision aimed at eradicating disparities by confronting systemic barriers. The Alliance’s primary goals are to improve access to care and birth outcomes for Black, Indigenous and People of Color in Los Angeles county, and address bias that impacts reproductive health and pregnancy-related trauma. Backbone Organization for the Maternal Health Network of San Bernardino County

In July 2023, Diversity Uplifts, Inc. assumed the role of Collective Impact Backbone for the Maternal Health Network of San Bernardino County. The Maternal Health Network was launched through the generous funding of First 5 San Bernardino based on the recognition that it would take a variety of systems and supports to improve maternal and infant health outcomes for families throughout San Bernardino County. 

The Maternal Health Network was established utilizing a collective impact framework, based on the understanding that issues facing the maternal health system in San Bernardino County were complex and required the joint contributions of multiple service sectors, partners, advocates and consumers.

Diversity Uplifts Training Program

DU develops educational curriculums and administers training to organizations on a range of topics including implicit bias and cultural humility, historical trauma & racism; birthing justice and human rights in childbirth, maternal mental health; mental health and wellness and support for incarcerated people.
